Cloudways Bangalore Server — Best DC Choice for Indian Sites
If most of your traffic comes from India, the right datacenter selection matters more than any speed plugin. Here is what we recommend after running real TTFB tests from India on each Cloudways DC option.
Recommended: DigitalOcean Bangalore (BLR1)
DigitalOcean operates a datacenter in Bangalore (region code BLR1). For visitors in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, this is the closest Cloudways DC and gives the lowest server-response time.
- Plan: DigitalOcean 1 GB starts at $11/mo (₹924/mo).
- Apply THATMY30 for 30% off the first 3 invoices.
- Server location: Bangalore in the dropdown when launching a new server.
TTFB — What to Expect From India
From a Mumbai broadband connection on a 1 GB DigitalOcean Bangalore server with a small WordPress install (no caching plugin), we observed a typical Time To First Byte of 80–140 ms. Compared with:
- DigitalOcean Singapore — 180–260 ms TTFB. Adds ~100 ms over Bangalore.
- Vultr High-Frequency Mumbai — 70–120 ms TTFB. Slightly faster CPU than DO Standard, ~₹1176/mo entry plan.
- AWS Mumbai — 70–110 ms TTFB. Costs more, starts at $34/mo.
- DigitalOcean Frankfurt / NYC — 280+ ms TTFB. Avoid for India-only traffic.
For a typical Indian blog or small business site, the DO Bangalore plan is the best balance of price and latency. If you need slightly faster CPU and your budget is flexible, Vultr HF Mumbai is the next step up.
When You Should Pick a Different DC
- Audience is mostly outside India. If 60%+ of traffic is from the US or Europe, pick a DC there instead — Bangalore will be slower for those users.
- You need NVMe + faster CPU and the budget allows it. Move to DigitalOcean Premium or Vultr High-Frequency.
- Compliance / enterprise. If your project must run on AWS or GCP, pick the AWS Mumbai or GCP Mumbai region inside Cloudways.
How to Pick the DC at Signup
- Sign up via the Cloudways signup page with code THATMY30.
- On the "Launch Server" screen, choose Application: WordPress (or your stack), Provider: DigitalOcean, Server Size: 1 GB.
- In the Location dropdown, select Bangalore.
- Click Launch Now. The server provisions in 5–7 minutes.
Can I Change the DC After Signup?
Cloudways does not have a one-click DC migration. To move an existing server, the supported path is:
- Launch a fresh server in the new DC (Bangalore).
- Open a support ticket and request a free same-account site clone from old → new server.
- Update DNS to point to the new IP. Decommission the old server.
Total downtime: zero, if you do the DNS switch after the clone completes.
